Why use Bark?

Bark has multiple uses both in the garden and as a landscaping product.  Larger particle bark can be used to create pathways or play areas, smaller particle bark is perfect for mulching around plants.

What is a Bark Mulch?

A mulch is simply a layer of bark applied across the surface of an area of soil. It’s often used to condition the soil and discourage weed growth. A mulch will retain soil moisture, temperature and suppress weeds. As the bark decomposes through time, it releases a range of nutrients which helps enrich the soil.

What is the difference between smaller and larger particle Bark?

Quite simply, larger particle bark takes longer to naturally breakdown.  If you are planning to lay bark on an area you will be walking on then larger particle bark will last longer.  Smaller particle bark will breakdown quicker however this could be desirable if your aim is to improve the condition of your soil.

What volume of Bark do you sell?

We sell bark in small bags or in bulk by the cubic meter (m³) which is normally more than a building merchant may supply. In bulk they are available in bulk bags for delivery or loose for collection.

How much Bark do you need?

As a general guide, one cubic meter (1 m³) of bark will cover an area of ten square meters (10 m²) at a depth of 4 inches or, 20 square meters (20 m²) at a depth of 2 inches. The larger the particle size of the bark, the deeper it should be laid.  Medium grade and play bark/chip should be laid approx. 4 inches where finer mulched/composted bark should be laid approx. 2 inches.
