Broccoli (Sprouting) Seeds - Summer Purple
Average Packet Content 100 seeds.
Broccoli (Sprouting) Seeds 'Summer Purple' is a British broccoli variety that has been specially bred for summer and autumn cropping seasons. This means that this type of broccoli does not require a winter season of cold weather to be able to grow a mass of delicious spears!
The sturdy stems can grow up to 90cm tall and the plants will produce high yields and bumper crops with regular picking. If you decide to sow successionally, you can harvest your broccoli from July to October. The dark-purple headed florets taste their best when steamed, with an excellent sweet and earthy flavour coming through.
Sow into a prepared seedbed, in rows at a depth of 1cm (½") and 30cm (12") between rows. Germination 7-14 days. Transfer into final positions approximately 6 weeks from sowing. Alternatively, sow in a propagator and cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite. At a temperature of 21°C (70°F). Transfer into 7.5cm (3") pots and grow on. Acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out. Apply lime to acid soils to reduce the risk of clubroot.
